This week i’m off once again to join the other volunteers on the NASCA ARMtour to central Australia. NASCA, the National Aboriginal Sporting Chance Academy, delivers programs to increase education opportunities, encourage sport & exercise, and promote good nutrition & healthy lifestyle activities. It’s a brilliant program that i’m proud to be a part of. The ARMtour (Athletes as Role Models) runs 3 times a year to 4 communities in the NT; Warumpi (Papunya), Ntaria (Hermannsberg), Yuelamu and our community Ltyentye Apurte (Santa Teresa).

To read about our trip to Santa Teresa in 2013 read our blog from last year.
Santa Teresa has a population of approx 500 and our week centres around the school activities. We spend each day in the classrooms helping the teachers or leading activities with kids from pre school all the way up to the senior fellas & senior girls. After school we usually head to ‘the club’, which is a massive rec centre with a big basketball court, and loads of other activities for the kids of all ages. Almost every night it’s a throng of games & energy. While we are here this week we’re once again running the school athletics carnival which will be lots of fun. The 4 teams; Goanna’s, Perente, Emu’s & Kangaroo’s will challenge each other in all the activities we can construct on the on the dusty red football oval next to school. We’ve got a few new faces in our team which is always great. The role models are always from diverse backgrounds and with unique skills. It’s great to meet inspiring people & bond together over the week. By the time we get back together with the others from the other 3 communities for our last night of camping under the stars each team are a tight nit bunch with some priceless stories to tell.
I can’t wait. I’ll write another blog when i’m back to tell you all about it.
