On Sunday 8th July the inaugural Sydney Harbour 10k will be held along the harbour foreshore on what is being billed as a very flat and fast course. With strong support in the running community it looks like this event will soon be a staple of the Sydney running calendar. Steve Moneghetti (4-time Olympian) is one high profile supporter commenting that “The event offers something for both elite athletes looking for a fast race and fun runners training for a longer event later in the year such as a 14km, half marathon or marathon.”
The positioning of the event in mid July is perfect for those new runners building up for the City to Surf or one of the Sydney Running Festival events.
Moneghetti went on to say “Australia marathon legend Lee Troop and myself will be lining up on the start line on this new course alongside some of Australia’s top elite athletes including Liam Adams who recently won the 12km Australian National Cross Country Championships in Canberra.”
While the elites up front will set blistering times on the flat course, that winds along the southern side of the harbour and through Barangaroo, organisers have planned for everyone. Three self-seeded start times will help improve running traffic and provide a better run for levels.
The event also provides online training options through Lee Troop’s Marathon Guru coaching system. Online early bird entries are still available. To enter the 2012 Suncorp Bank Sydney Harbour 10k head to www.sydneyharbour10k.com.au
