2013 Berlin marathon and a new marathon world record to Wilson Kipsang of Kenya 2:03:23 has once again shown the dominance of the East African runners. Kipsang broke Patrick Makau’s 2yr old mark of 2:03:38, which had eclipsed the previous world records of Ethiopian great, Haile Gabrselassie, also set in Berlin. This the 4th consecutive world record set on the Berlin course cements it’s place as the fastest certified course in the world.
Wilson Kipsang beat countrymen Eliud Kipchoge (2:04:05) and Geoffrey Kipsang (2:06:26). Unfortunately Patrick Makau pulled out 2 weeks before the race with a knee injury, setting up an exciting head to head race the next time the 2 runners meet fully fit.
In the womens marathon Kenyan Florence Kiplagat of Kenya won in 2:21:13, with compatriot Sharon Cherop (2:22:28) 2nd & Irina Mitenko (2:24:54) 3rd.
